Portraits by Alaska Pet-ography

Hi, everybody! If you've come to Dog Jog over the
last few years, you probably already recognize me
and know about my awesome skills - I have racked
up several championships in the tail-wagging contest.

What you may NOT know is that at first, my family
didn't want me. "No way!" said my dad when he
first heard about me. Now, before you get the
wrong impression, my folks are cool. Dad just had
some concerns....

My Pet Patrol portrait, 2004 (here's what I looked like back then, in 2004)

My family already had a dog named Lacy, who was
rescued from Anchorage Animal Care & Control
the year before. (See, I said my folks are cool.)
Thing is, Lacy really HATES other dogs when she
first meets them. She's the kind of girl who
doesn't just roll over for you on the first hello. And
she checked out several dogs from FOP before
me, and vetoed all of them. Then my rescuer
Michele told them about me.

She said she'd been at Animal Care & Control to
consider taking a litter of 10 Chihuahua puppies
into rescue. The folks there made her a deal -
take all the puppies and get me for free. (I think of it
as a BONUS.) I had some respiratory problems, and
it turned out that my bad eye couldn't be saved.

My folks listened to the story, but my dad said he
really didn't want a little one-eyed ankle biter running
around, and besides, what would Lacy think? A
few more dogs struck out with her, and Michele
kept bringing up my name....

They agreed to meet me at the Dimond High hockey
rink on a nice spring day. Dad says when they drove
up and saw me, they said they hoped that wasn't the
dog Michele meant. It was. Lacy took off after me,
and my folks thought she was going to eat me! But
we just played and played, chasing each other,
wrestling and running. Lacy loved me and I loved
her too! My folks just couldn't say no. So really it's
Lacy who adopted me, my family just agreed to it.
Now wasn't that smart?

I am the complete opposite of my sister in every way.
She likes the cold and snow, and I like sunshine and blankets.
She loves to swim, and I prefer not to get my feet wet.
She is big and I am small. (Though I did grow up to be a little bigger
than an ankle-biter...but just barely.) We are perfect for each other
and we love our family very much!

See you on the Dog Jog trail!
